Wisdom Booklet 27 ~* Character Quality Ws

Today we completed our character quality worksheet for Cautiousness~* knowing how important right timing is in accomplishing right actions.

We then began to study Character Sketchs from Volume 3 ~* Cautiouness. We studied the prairie dog & looked at Barnabas. Our focus cautiousness is living within the protection of my God-given resources. The kids then did a character sketch coloring page. I could not find my crossward book for this volume so I will have to purchase another one for the older students.

Wisdom Booklet 27 ~* Meditation Worksheet

Today we completed the Meditation Worksheet. I reminded them the purpose of this worksheet is not only to do a complete verse study looking at the Greek & using tools but to meditate on the verse as we go through the WB. I pray the Holy Spirit is their teacher all month bringing up the verse all their lives.
I began to read "The Hiding Place"about Corrie Ten Boom as a read aloud today. It is recommended reading for the WB (History projects) so I choose this as the read aloud for this WB. The children are familiar with the story since my hubby read to them as a read aloud Corrie Ten Boom Keeper of the Angel's Den by Janet & Geoff Benge in the past.

We then worked on our Pennsylvania postcard facts. We are apart of a state postcard swap with homeschoolers around the country. We are enjoying getting postcards from all the states. Some are homemade while others are bought. They all have interesting facts and I can't wait to sit down and read them all. In the meantime we are enjoying getting them in the mail. Our turn to send out postcards from PA is coming up so today I ordered the postcards and we sat down and worked together on writing some of the PA facts we thought are cool to print on the post cards. We do live in a great state that is rich in history & its very foundation was built on Christ!!!
Here is a picture of just some of the great postcards we have received so far :O)

Wisdom Booklet 27 ~* Wisdom Quiz

I have not posted since last Wed. We have been very busy. My husband and I went away for "A Weekend To Remember" sponsored by Family Life Today.http://www.familylife.com/site/c.dnJHKLNnFoG/b.5846045/k.8C0A/Weekend_to_Remember__Marriage_Getaway.htm?fromhp=WTRstatic I would recommend this to any marriage couple!!!!! It will sure be a wedding gift to my children if & when they get married. It was a beautiful ending for me with the past Wisdom Booklet study on marriage. God's timing is always perfect and I praise Him for my husband who truly is a gift to me. We are so excited and our vision has been challenged in reaching our community for Christ one family at a time! IBLP & Family Life both have such excellent tools in building strong families on the rock and so much more that I praise God for the tools He has given us.That was a perfect way to end WB26 :O) There is nothing better than a weekend alone with your hubby and Christ the center of it. Our relationship with Christ & each other is truly sweeter as the years go by!

So today we began Wisdom Booklet 27.
Major Concept: Truthfulness Requires Few Words
Verse: Mathew 5:33-37 ...But let your communication be, yea, yea: Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil'
Character focus: Cautiousness~* knowing how important right timing is in accomplishing right actions
Theme song: I know whom I have Believed"

Today was a light day.We discussed the major concept and did the Wisdom Quiz. I enjoy hearing the wise answers to the quiz from my children when we go through the quiz together. The whole purpose of the Wisdom Booklets is that they learn Godly wisdom. Colossians 1:9-10 desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. That ye might walk worthy walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.

We spent the rest of the day working on the 3Rs & trying to get the house back in order.

NEWS! I received the IBLP winter catalog and was excited to see the dates for next years ATI conferences. I am hoping and praying it is God's timing for us to go this year!!! Maybe Nashville so we can go to the Creation Museum too :O)

WB 26 Medicine Resource~ DNA

We continued our study in the Medicine Resource. We learned how the development of a child & how the genetic information not only determines the characteriscs but sometimes can cause abnormalties.
We just lost a baby his year so this study is the Lord's timing as always. I think its imporant for the kids undersand medically and still know that God is in control and there was a beauiful purpose for baby Heaven.
This is the kit I purchased . I have all the supplies but did not read the directions for the first experiment. We were all ready to go until we came to the directions and it stated to place the Denatured Alcohol in the freezer the night before :/ Oh well ,tomorrow is another day! I purchased this DNA kit from Timberdoodle and we look forward o finally begin tomorrow. I least I hope so :O)

WB 26 Medicine Resource~ DNA

Today we continued our study in the Medicine Resource. We did #2 studying Mitosis & Meiosis. I had the older students diagram and label the phases. I planned on beginning the DNA experiments but did not get to them instead we ended up focusing on fixing errors in the Wisdom Booklet LA. They love hands on science projects so they are chomping at the bit. I will have to make an extra effort to do that tomorrow.
This picture of Nehemiah & Job next to Goliath was from last weeks Bible devotions. My hubby drew the basic shape then the kids colored & added the details. He was big enough the kids to all work on him. They tried to jump up and touch his chin then they really got an idea of just how big Goliath was and I sure would not want to face him. Through Christ all things are possible! Even the giants we face today!

WB 26 Medicine Resource~ DNA

We began our medicine resource today. How does genetics confirm that "two shall be one flesh"? The ultimate demonstration of "one flesh" occurs when a child is conceived. Christ takes 23 chromosomes from mom & 23 from Dad and they become one.

We will be spending the week studying Genetics & DNA. I love how the Biblical view introduces the study of DNA & Genetics. One of the beautiful purposes of marriage is to be fruitful & produce Godly seed for the Kingdom of Christ. This is so important that my children understand this because in toady's modern Christianity children have become a choice or a burden when in the Bible they have always been a blessing and a purpose. When blessings are listed in the Bible children are always listed first! Next time you read through the Bible I challenge you when blessing are given to pay attention to what is listed first.

We are looking forward to doing some experiments & lessons on Genetics tomorrow.Today I read the recommended book to the younger students DNA is here to stay. by Dr.Fran Balkwill to the younger students Here is a link for the book through Amazon. .http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=dna+is+here+to+stay&sprefix=dna+is+here+to+stay
Dominic & Joe did a report on Genetic Engineering & gave their opinion on the subject
.
The younger students remembered their Vacation Bible school song. I got DNA. I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

WB 26 Science,authority, & law resource

It has been some time since I have made a post but we are still working through the WB26! The Lord has clearly directed me to stop one of the co-ops because doing two is taking me away from the WB which he has clearly called us to use. I should of completed this sometime ago. So after Christmas I will go down to one co-op and there is a long break. The co-op I have decided works for my family after God's leading does not begin until Feb. again. The pruning lesson in WB 25 sure spoke to me ;0). I am looking forward to the cold winter full steam ahead with the WB & focusing on healthy cooking for the family.

Since I last posted we finished the Renaissance study, Science resource, Authority Through Accuracy, & Law resource. Next week we will do the Medicine Resource and finish WB26.

Today they did the project studying Genetic Engineering. Since we are making a lapbook this WB I will be having them make mini-books studying genetics etc.

One of the interesting things I found in studying the Renaissance time is the study of humanism. It amazes me the Christian homeschool movement and curriculum that is founded on the humanistic teaching instead of the Bible. The Lord has opened my eyes to this and it lead for me to discuss this with my children.

Humanists in the Renaissance times we scholars & artists who studied subjects to understand the problems of the world.. These subjects that are called humanities were:
  • literature,
  • philosophy,
  • arts
  • history.

These subjects in themselves are not wrong to teach unless used with humanistic teaching & books. The humanistic view was re birthed from Ancient Greek & Roman cultures which we know was opposite of the Christian world. This movement has become popular in the homeschool world and the humanistic knowledge is the foundation of the education instead of the word of God. Some of the curriclim are even under the name of Christ. I praise God He has opened my eyes to this as we studied the Renaissance period and I soooo thankful He opened the door for us to use the WB. I look forward to go full steam ahead for the rest of the school year!

God is so good!

WB 26 History Resource & Renaissance

Yesterday we went to the TOG co-op.

Today we did the Wisdom Worksheet section ..What is the significance of Ezra's command to put away strange wives? I enjoyed bringing the two times periods together looking at Ezra in ancient Israel as they began to rebuild Israel, looking at the word of God then looking at the Renaissance period and how the reformers went back to the word of God.

It was also a good time to discuss the importance of being equally yoked and marrying a believer which went with our major concept well marriage vows are for life.We took the time to look at the consequences of Israel and discussed some of the challenges & consequences of marrying unbelievers.

We then watched the Animated Hero Classics Leonardo Da Vinci. The younger students did some activity & coloring pages. I am blessed that this was also from the WEC library. We then studied Renaissance art.

Our challenge in modern Christianity is the same as the Renaissance period the strong grip of humanistic teaching has caused the church to become like the world. We need to get back to the word of God. It is a sad time when even God's people look at children as a burden when they are blessings simply because of the humanistic teaching that has plagued the church.

WB 26 History Resource & Renaissance

Today we studied Martin Luther. Wends. always seem to go so fast and it is the lightest school day of the week. I am enjoying looking at the spiritual state of this time period as we study it and continually being challenged to stand on the word of God. It reminds me of the song..I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus .I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back. Though none go with me still I will follow though none go with me still I will follow no turning back no turning back.
Just as it was during the time of Martin Luther so it is today the narrow road to Calvary. We are to be the light bearers though not always easy.

WB 26 History Resource & Renaissance

We continued our study on the Reformation. We looked at the life of John Hus and did a geography study on Italy marking the important cities of the Renaissance time period along with the general geography of Italy.

WB 26 History Resource & Renaissance

Well I am beginning to feel better after a long hard few weeks. Our past WB song My Anchor Holds was a joy to sing during family devotions today.

I do not like to stretch out the Wisdom Booklets to much but I wanted to get one more week of the Renaissance in to cover the Reformation since I feel it is important church history. Studying the Renaissance time period helps to better understand what life was like during the Reformation.

I am the librarian at our co-op so I get to see all the fun homeschooling products there are available. I checked out the Reformation Overview hosted by Dr.Ken Curtisn the President of Christian History institute. Today we watched the movie looking at John Wycliffe. I was encouraged by the challenges he faced and how important it is to test everything with the word of God. I then had them make a small mini-book on John Wycliffe recording what they learned.

We also studied the Council of Trent today. I assigned them their research projects from the WB projects. They are due to have a report done by the weekend to the family including Dad.

Dominic: Henry 8th

Joe: Shakespeare

Angelina: Elizabeth 1
Today was memory Monday so we recited all the verses up until this WB :O)

WB 26 Insights Through Invest.& Renaissance

We finished the Insights Through Investigation resource today. The resource was a deeper Bible study on our verse looking at the Greek word porneia. This was an excellent Bible study looking at both the Old & New Testament scripture concerning ..saving for the cause of fornication. Math. 5:31-32 As always this brought about discussions that they must be equipped for as an adult that you may not discuss in a normal Bible study.
We then continued our Renaissance study. The older three are working on mini-books while Daniel will be doing notebooking pages. Since we covered a few topics today I let Daniel pick what topic he wanted to do a notebooking page instead of him trying to do them all.He choose the Black Death which we studied in a previous WB in more detail. We also studies a few other topics so this was a great review and they are able to put the puzzle peaces together where these things happened as we look at the Renaissance time period.
So today we looked at:
  • Printing press (Gutenberg)
  • Bubonic Plague
  • Renaissance men & women
  • reformers- Martin Luther & John Calvin

WB 26 Insights Through Invest.& Renaissance

Today we began the Insights through Investigations resource and it is memory Monday so we reviewed past WB verses.

We then began our study on the Renaissance period. I always try to do 2 weeks history & 2 weeks science each month with each Wisdom Booklet.

Here are some of the tools I will be using for this study.
  • Hands of a Child Renaissance lapbook http://www.handsofachild.com/shop/The-Renaissance-Project-Pack-P571.aspx
  • Dk Renaissance book (Warning I had to use many stickers in this book!!!! would not recommend taking it out from the library and only use if you are willing to marker or cover pictures with stickers) it sure reflects the rebirth of Ancient Greece & Rome.
  • Big Book of World History ~* I will be adding some mini-book ideas from this book
  • Renaissance by Carson & Dellosa

I am placing all my mini-booklets in bags until I decide how I want to make the lapbook or place them in a notebook. One tip cut the corner of the bags to keep the air from being trapped inside

Today our study was"

  • The Renaissance
  • spread of the Renaissance
  • Medieval vs. Renaissance

Peter Rabbit Lapbook~Hands of a Child

Today I sat down with Job and finished the lapbook on Peter Rabit we began at the TOG co-op last Tuesday. I purchased the DK Ultimate Peter Rabbit Sticker book to decorate and use the front as the cover of the lapbook. Job enjoyed decorating the lapbook and I helped him organize what are of the lapbook to put them in like the picture of the author etc. Angelina then pulled out the puppets and reacted the story to them reading the book which they enjoyed.

WB 26 Character Quality WS,Bees & Startwrite

Today we did the Character Quality Worksheet. Our character focus for this month is Loyalty: using difficult times to demonstrate my commitment to God and to those whom He has called me to serve. The kids have done this so many times I just hand them the worksheet then we meet together and discuss the Character Quality. I really enjoyed the answers to the questions & the Bible character examples they choose.
We then did the Bee study in the Character Sketches.
On the Wisdom Searchers group ( yahoo group for those who use the WB)one of the moms mention the Startwrite program. I purchased the program at http://www.startwrite.com/ I am so excited about this program and looking forward to making homemade notebooking pages for the Wisdom Booklets Studies.I can also use it when teaching elementary students at the co-ops. Here are some samples. It is hard to see on the picture but the first page has dotted lines for the younger students to trace and a red dot to know where to begin the letter.Even the older student can practice penmanship or copy work with either manuscript or cursive. There are many fonts to choose from and sizes. It is easy to use and you can add pictures ,etc. or leave it blank and have a space for their own drawings. This program is a fun way to personalize my students work at all ages. I can see I will get my money worth out of this program:O)
We also did the Character Sketch lesson and I used the Startwrite program for their writing pages. They also did the coloring book page & crossword puzzles.
I love purchasing products that can be used to study the Wisdom Booklets!

WB 26 Meditation WS & Loyalty~*Canadian Geese

We did the Meditation Worksheet today. They completed the worksheet on their own and then we sat together to go over the worksheet.
We then did a Character Sketch on the Canadian Geese. I was excited because they learned how the geese pair for life and are devoted to one another which went perfect with our verse study :O) Here is a picture of the crossword puzzle & coloring book that IBLP sells that go with the Character Sketch books.
Wisdom Booklet 26 verse: Mathew 5:31-32
It hath been said, whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: But I say unto you, that whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
I enjoyed today when my son said not only is it important to be loyal to a wife but to choose one wisely that will be loyal to me. That is the wisdom the Lord uses while going through the Wisdom Booklets.

WB 25 Mastery Quiz & WB 26 Major Concept

Today's thought and one which I am meditating on is Loyalty is adjusting my schedule to meet the needs of those I am serving (Great Horned Owl)I must always keep that focus as a homeschool mom with high calling wanting to please the Lord knowing that I will stand before him one day (WB25) Even if it takes pruning some suckers in my life.(WB25) Now the Lord is taking me to using that time wisely in serving Him both with my family and the church to reach others WB26. The Life classroom is the best part about homeschooling using the Wisdom Booklets!!!
Today we did the Mastery Quiz for WB 25. I always enjoy the review of what we covered in the WB.

Then we began WB 26 and discussed the Major Concept: Marriage Vows are for life. I was going to do the Commands of Christ but decided that would be a good Sunday evening devotion.

I decided to do the four animals in the Character sketch book Volume 1 that teaches Loyalty our character focus for WB 26. So we did the Great horn owl. Angelo is holding up a tape measure to show how big a Great Horn owl can get. The older kids drew an owl picture while the younger students colored the owl picture from the Character Sketch coloring book.We then reviewed the lesson by completing the owl character sketch crossword puzzle. My hubby is teaming up with me so for family devotions he is doing the Bible section of the Character Sketches and then we are completing the crossword puzzle for review. We will do this all week until we finish all four animals t.hat display the character quality of loyalty.

Then the elementary kids did review work in their Botany notebook. We are doing school each day outside and I am loving it :O) I am such an outdoors person I love to be in God's creation!

My favorite blogs :O)
