Today we did the History Resource. Our focus was the English debtors prison. We studied the terrible conditions and how a man who loved God saw the conditions and made a difference.
In 1733, James Oglethorpe established a colony in the U.S. for imprisoned debtors. Not only did he establish the colony but urged men of God like the famous John & Charles Wesley to come to Georgia whose father at one time was in a debtors prison. Did you know Georgia originally was a slave free colony and the Georgia flag was used in the Civil War!
It is so important that our children do not loose sight of the great things God has done through His children and how these great men have made a difference as salt of the earth. Another great hero of the faith!
There is a great short story of him in the book In God We Trust by Timothy Crater & Ranelda Hunsicker.
We then did a study of Georgia using http://www.notebookingpages.com/ Georgia notebooking pages. The student used an Encyclopedia to research the information. Finally, we continued our study on the Civil War doing lesson 9 studying The Bloodiest Day in American history the Battle of Antietam with the results of 23,000 deaths.
