Wisdom Booklet 27 ~* Meditation Worksheet
I began to read "The Hiding Place"about Corrie Ten Boom as a read aloud today. It is recommended reading for the WB (History projects) so I choose this as the read aloud for this WB. The children are familiar with the story since my hubby read to them as a read aloud Corrie Ten Boom Keeper of the Angel's Den by Janet & Geoff Benge in the past.

We spent the rest of the day working on the 3Rs & trying to get the house back in order.
NEWS! I received the IBLP winter catalog and was excited to see the dates for next years ATI conferences. I am hoping and praying it is God's timing for us to go this year!!! Maybe Nashville so we can go to the Creation Museum too :O)

WB 26 Science,authority, & law resource
Since I last posted we finished the Renaissance study, Science resource, Authority Through Accuracy, & Law resource. Next week we will do the Medicine Resource and finish WB26.
Today they did the project studying Genetic Engineering. Since we are making a lapbook this WB I will be having them make mini-books studying genetics etc.
One of the interesting things I found in studying the Renaissance time is the study of humanism. It amazes me the Christian homeschool movement and curriculum that is founded on the humanistic teaching instead of the Bible. The Lord has opened my eyes to this and it lead for me to discuss this with my children.
Humanists in the Renaissance times we scholars & artists who studied subjects to understand the problems of the world.. These subjects that are called humanities were:
- literature,
- philosophy,
- arts
- history.
These subjects in themselves are not wrong to teach unless used with humanistic teaching & books. The humanistic view was re birthed from Ancient Greek & Roman cultures which we know was opposite of the Christian world. This movement has become popular in the homeschool world and the humanistic knowledge is the foundation of the education instead of the word of God. Some of the curriclim are even under the name of Christ. I praise God He has opened my eyes to this as we studied the Renaissance period and I soooo thankful He opened the door for us to use the WB. I look forward to go full steam ahead for the rest of the school year!
God is so good!

WB 26 History Resource & Renaissance
Today we did the Wisdom Worksheet section ..What is the significance of Ezra's command to put away strange wives? I enjoyed bringing the two times periods together looking at Ezra in ancient Israel as they began to rebuild Israel, looking at the word of God then looking at the Renaissance period and how the reformers went back to the word of God.
It was also a good time to discuss the importance of being equally yoked and marrying a believer which went with our major concept well marriage vows are for life.We took the time to look at the consequences of Israel and discussed some of the challenges & consequences of marrying unbelievers.
We then watched the Animated Hero Classics Leonardo Da Vinci. The younger students did some activity & coloring pages. I am blessed that this was also from the WEC library. We then studied Renaissance art.
Our challenge in modern Christianity is the same as the Renaissance period the strong grip of humanistic teaching has caused the church to become like the world. We need to get back to the word of God. It is a sad time when even God's people look at children as a burden when they are blessings simply because of the humanistic teaching that has plagued the church.

WB 26 Insights Through Invest.& Renaissance
We finished the Insights Through Investigation resource today. The resource was a deeper Bible study on our verse looking at the Greek word porneia. This was an excellent Bible study looking at both the Old & New Testament scripture concerning ..saving for the cause of fornication. Math. 5:31-32 As always this brought about discussions that they must be equipped for as an adult that you may not discuss in a normal Bible study.
We then continued our Renaissance study. The older three are working on mini-books while Daniel will be doing notebooking pages. Since we covered a few topics today I let Daniel pick what topic he wanted to do a notebooking page instead of him trying to do them all.He choose the Black Death which we studied in a previous WB in more detail. We also studies a few other topics so this was a great review and they are able to put the puzzle peaces together where these things happened as we look at the Renaissance time period.
So today we looked at:
- Printing press (Gutenberg)
- Bubonic Plague
- Renaissance men & women
- reformers- Martin Luther & John Calvin

WB 26 Insights Through Invest.& Renaissance
We then began our study on the Renaissance period. I always try to do 2 weeks history & 2 weeks science each month with each Wisdom Booklet.
Here are some of the tools I will be using for this study.
- Hands of a Child Renaissance lapbook http://www.handsofachild.com/shop/The-Renaissance-Project-Pack-P571.aspx
- Dk Renaissance book (Warning I had to use many stickers in this book!!!! would not recommend taking it out from the library and only use if you are willing to marker or cover pictures with stickers) it sure reflects the rebirth of Ancient Greece & Rome.
- Big Book of World History ~* I will be adding some mini-book ideas from this book
- Renaissance by Carson & Dellosa
I am placing all my mini-booklets in bags until I decide how I want to make the lapbook or place them in a notebook. One tip cut the corner of the bags to keep the air from being trapped inside
Today our study was"
- The Renaissance
- spread of the Renaissance
- Medieval vs. Renaissance

WB 26 Character Quality WS,Bees & Startwrite
We then did the Bee study in the Character Sketches.
On the Wisdom Searchers group ( yahoo group for those who use the WB)one of the moms mention the Startwrite program. I purchased the program at http://www.startwrite.com/ I am so excited about this program and looking forward to making homemade notebooking pages for the Wisdom Booklets Studies.I can also use it when teaching elementary students at the co-ops. Here are some samples. It is hard to see on the picture but the first page has dotted lines for the younger students to trace and a red dot to know where to begin the letter.Even the older student can practice penmanship or copy work with either manuscript or cursive. There are many fonts to choose from and sizes. It is easy to use and you can add pictures ,etc. or leave it blank and have a space for their own drawings. This program is a fun way to personalize my students work at all ages. I can see I will get my money worth out of this program:O)
We also did the Character Sketch lesson and I used the Startwrite program for their writing pages. They also did the coloring book page & crossword puzzles.
I love purchasing products that can be used to study the Wisdom Booklets!
