WB 20~*Mastery Quiz & Life Classroom

  • We did not get to the Mastery Quiz & Life Classroom yesterday done so we did it this am before we began our Saturday. Our projects took more time than I expected yesterday but the kids were working and I don't want to stop any student when they are focusing on a project. The Mastery Quiz & Life Classroom are important enough for me to do it today. We just did both in an oral discussion.
  • Saturdays are cleaning, check school work, & get ready for church day.Life is always challenging for me as a homeschool mom when I do other things so during the school year I try to keep my weekends open.I need Sunday as a day of rest & to prepare for the week.My school week goes so much better when these two things are in order. We are still waiting for our Dyson part to come for our vacuum cleaner.I can't wait! 9 people,2 cats, a bird, & 2 dogs keeps a vacuum sweeper busy.
  • We begin the local homeschool co-op in February so I plan to make a lapbook for this Wisdom Booklet.I will have them make a mini-booklet for each resource.I still plan to make a volcano & dissect a heart as two messy projects but we will spend more time researching & making a mini-booklets for our lapbook.
  • Its that time of year when I begin to pray & plan for the next school year. Now that I have a high school student next year I need to do more research and spend more time in prayer for direction.Dominic who will be in high school next year wants to do the Wisdom Booklets so that was very encouraging to me since we discussed some options for him.So now need to look at how to use this tool to complete his high school credits. So that as well as planning next school year will be my current focus. In every season God is so good!

WB 20 Science 1~* Rocks & Minerals

We began the day learning from our read aloud about Ancient Greece.
Then went outside to collect rocks that we could study. We did lessons 6-8 in the Considering God's Creation book.

Then the kids looked at the characteristics of the rocks and filled out the Rock detective sheet.
We then separated to do the age appropriate projects.

Angelo & Job learned to identify the different rock characteristics hands on.I used a poster board and divided it in sections.I Then use index cards to change it.

doing the streak test

Daniel loved this he wanted to do rock after rock :)

Angelina did a notebook page.

Dominic studied the BJU textbook and made a mini-book he will fill it out tomorrow.
Joe made a diorama and will finish that tomorrow.

Out experiment showing extrusive rocks.

Evolution stumper: It has been estimated that the erosion and the breakdown of plants, about 6 inch. of topsoil is formed over 5-20,000 yrs. Most of the land on the earth has only 7-8 inch. of topsoil. If the earth were millions of years old, as evolutionists say it is,shouldn't there be a lot more topsoil?

WB 20 Science Res.1~* Diamonds

In our Wisdom Booklets today we studied Diamonds and discussed the analogy of a Christian. This was part 1 of science part 2 was the termite study so It was good to remind them about the analogy of a Pharisee comparing it to the analogy of a Christian that reflects Christ.

We also looked at Ancient Persia preparing for the Greek Persian wars. Then we went to church.I am very tired and fighting a cold but we made it.

The slower pace Wed.school day is a must for me because for some reason the mid-week I am always so tired and having a more relaxed school day works great so on Thursday I feel fueled to tackle fun projects.I like to do the messy hands on projects on Thursdays. The mineral kits came in so the kids are excited to study them tomorrow.I am going to call around the local jewelers to see if I can schedule a field trip.I would also like to make some Greek pottery so I will have to make some phone calls tomorrow.

Well this was the last resource in the WB so we will begin WB 21 Monday so I will need to order my supplies!

Malachi 3:17

I am not sure what happened before so lets try this again :/

Wisdom Booklet 20~HR Ancient Greece

Meet the Cast: Daniel~Cyclops

Job~sheep

Nehemiah~one of Odysseus's men

Angelo~Odysseus

This scene is from the Ancient Greek story the Odyssey. They made masks just like they did n Ancient Greece when performing in a play. Then they decided on acting this part of the story which came from our exciting read aloud today.

The focus of today's Greek study was:

  • Greek Philosophy

  • Greek language & alphabet

  • Greek Theatre

The older students researched & wrote while Angelina did another History pocket. We then went to the TOG co-op for a science class the elementary students are learning about astronomy while the Jr.High students are going through a Creation seminar. After TOG the older students went to Grandma's for a spelling lesson.Grandma was a school teacher and since they are struggling with spelling she has volunteered to tutor them using the Bible as the lesson book :) What a blessing she is to us.Of course they get some special Grandma time too!

Colossians 2:4-8 the modern day education system stems from the Greek culture not the Bible Hebrew culture which commands parents to educate their children. Many of the Greek philosophies have crippled the church as a result. The many philosophies of man are being taught in the school systems originally developed by the Greek culture.Today evolution being one that is very dangerous and a stumbling block to so many young Christians who have not been equipped.Gods people need to be as Ezra and weep because we have gone so far from the commands of God then repent.

I loved today because evolution was a perfect door to explain to the kids what philosophy is and the difference between scientific facts & philosophy which is evolution. The Creation seminar today went perfect with today's studies.God is so good we need to get back to the Hebrew roots and leave the Greek culture as Ancient History!!! Modern Greece is a Christan nation and the first country God sent missionaries.

Teachable moments he wanted to cut a leaf.

Angelo's victory crown.

Today we:

  • looked at the Mycenaeans
  • discussed the dark ages of Ancient Greece
  • studied the 1rst Olympic games

Projects we completed:

  • Dominc (8th) research & write ~Olympic games
  • Joesoh (7th) research & write~Minoans plus divided the time line by the Greek periods
  • Angelina (5th)~Sports & Entertainment of Ancient Greece Pocket
  • Daniel (3rd)~add to his Ancient Greece poster
  • Angelo(1rst)~made a laurel wreath for the winner of tonight's Olympic games

Tonight is the Olympic games which the kids are looking forward too. Each child has picked a country and will compete against each other for a gold, silver or bronze metal. My sister purchased a Wii system so we are going to rent the Winter Olympic games to compete against one another and will do games all week. This is perfect timing since the 2010 winter Olympics begins soon.We are looking forward to watching it after this study.

I have a Bible study tonight so Daddy is in charge of the Greek games. We will let Angelina compete even though she is a girl :) They will pass the Olympic torch Angel made and say the oath. Finally the winner will receive the laurel leaf crown (Angelo made) to remember Ancient Greeks Olympics & pass out the metals (from the $ store)for the modern games.
