WEC Spring 2010 week 6


Joe's art project for today.His art teacher who is also the pottery teacher brought in our pottery today to the co-op.Everything was so BEAUTIFUL!!! I am very happy :O) It is amazing how only two glaze colors can make so many beautiful designs. We had a wonderful day today.This co-op really is a blessing to our family.

My pot has my fingerprints that Laura said potters sometimes like to leave on their work.I purposely placed them on my pot.I pray the Lord's mark is on my life as He is the potter and I am the clay.

WB 22 History~ American Indians

Today we did another project day and studied the Southwest Indian tribes.Monday we will study the Northwest & Artic Indians to finish our study on the North American Indians.
Daniel had to put the story in order to make a mini-book about weaving.Angelina continued to work on her lapbook.We book work on this together. We both enjoy scrapbooking and spending time together so we work on her lapbook together.The boys are not really interested in lapbooks but they do enjoy looking at them.







Angelina began this weaving project at the beginning of the school year but she just never had time to finish it so we slapped it in the lapbook. The colors looked like it was made just for this lapbook.





I remembered today my mother in law gave us Indian paper she got from great-grandma so we used the fancy Indian paper to add color to the lapbook.


Our pathetic Pueblo house. Nehemiah was playing with the pieces as I cut them out and he just happened to loose a few important pieces of the Pueblo village. Oh well it is a small tribe I guess :/

WB 22 History~ American Indians














































Today was another project day. The elementary students studied Plain Indians while the older students worked on a research assignment for the co-op. We read ..if you lived with the Sioux Indians. This easy to make Teepee Villiage, I purchased from Tobin's lab went perfect with our story. There were tons of figures that showed the daily life of the Plain Indians which was explained in the book, the games, etc.


I cut a picture from the back of the Teepee book to make a pocket to store the teepees and figures in the lapbook.Each Teepee represented different Plain Indian clan symbols(turtle, bear claws, etc.).The The boys had so much fun playing Indians. My reward was listening to them play since they play using the things they learned in the read aloud. I had to laugh when Angelo said " I am tired of eating buffalo let's go to hunt some deer".


We did not get to the WB today we ended up just doing the projects then off to church. Tomorrow I can't wait to get back in the WB.

Today was just project day.We will jump back into the WB tomorrow.We spent the day studying Southeast Woodland Indians.Since my husband does have Cherokee from his Grandmothers side the kids were interested in this lesson.

WB 22 History~ American Indians

We are reading the Life & Diary of David Brainerd as a read aloud which goes with our History recourse.We began the resource today and will read parts of it all week along with our read aloud.I will be spending this week studying North American Indians as our further study projects. Today we studied the North East Woodland Indians.
I taught a class at the co-op a while back about Native American Indians so I had some supplies on hand which was nice.Daniel m early elementary will be doing Draw Write now in his Primary notebook while Angelina (upper elementary)will be making a accordion lapbook using Teacher Created Materials Native American Arts & Cultures.The older will be going a writing assignment all week on Native American Indians.


I purchased Indian paper dolls from Tobin's lab for their lapbook & notebook.There is clothes each geographic area of Indians.
Each part of the accordion book has a color for each area.So she colors her map to match color section.I also purchased library pockets from Tobin's lab to hold the clothes.






















We also used animal stickers of woodland animals to decorate Daniels notebook.Since he does not plan to use the Indian paper dolls to play with he glued them on the notebook to shoe types of Woodland Indian head dresses.

Angelina made this longhouse at the beginning of the school year for my PA Keystones class so it worked great for our lesson.She dressed her paper dolls with the Woodland Indians clothes. To make the longhouse we used cardboard (cereal boxes work great) then put masking tape all over it in little short pieces.She then colored it with brown shoe polish this really makes it look like pieces of bark.She then glued small twigs on the house to make it look like the frame.
