Blizzard 2010

This is my dog running down our street.

Daddy chopping firewood to keep us warm. The problem is the wood was too wet so it would not burn very good and since it was getting into the single digits we decided to call Grandma. My brother in law came to the rescue he has 4 wheel drive Jeep but had to make a few trips to fit us all. The kid's trampoline.

The weight of the snow caused quite a few pines to come crashing down this is the top that almost hit hubby.

The boys shoveling the driveway. The sad thing is we own a Bob Cat that is over my sister's house collecting snow :/

It began to snow yesterday right at the end of our co-op and continued until this afternoon. In 24 hrs. we got at least 2 feet of snow.Since we live in the "country" we are the last to receive any attention from the township or utility companies. We have no electricity because of the snow on our pine trees being so heavy the weight knocked some over one landing on a wire. One fell over and will land on our house if the pine tree holding it up decides to not to.So with no eletricity we have no phone, no electricity, & no water because our well pump needs electricity. We also have no lights or heat.Since it will be in the single digits tonight hubby is chopping wood & tending to the tree which just came down crashing over him.Praise the Lord he is safe and now the danger of it coming on our living room were we will be sleeping by the fireplace. The boys are working hard to clear our driveway and road. The salt trucks have not come and until they do Duquene light will not fix the electicty. So with the thousands of others in high populated areas with out electricity it more than likely will out of heat, water, & elecricty for at least a week. Please keep us in prayers.I want to reserve my laptops batteries so I am signing off.

Angelo is a tiger & Daniel is a lion for drama class. They will be doing Noah's Ark.

This co-op is a breath of girly air for Angelina.Having a bunch of boys she doesn't always get to do alot of girly activities so I let her choose girly classes :)

Angelina's American girl class.
The co-op is 10 weeks in the spring & 10 in the fall.Since PA History is required. So it does not interfere with my Wisdom Booklets I taught it this year to get it n.The co-op is on Fridays which is awesome at the end of the week so it does not interview with what I do at home. For the 10 weeks I go to a 4 day schedule for the WB LA & WB.

It is a great place for the kids to get together with other Christian families to do fun things we would normally not take the time to do.They also offer foreign languages ,Chemistry labs etc. for the older students which is great.

WB 21 History Resource World War 1

Today we finished our History Resource we read pages 22-25 and looked at the rest of Lenin days as well as Russia's history. We also looked at the birth of communism. As we studied history and discussed the socialistic agenda I explained further with them some of the reasons we homeschool-evolution,atheism, & socialism goes hand in hand.Studying history we need to be very careful we do not follow the same footsteps as Russia & Germany did which is why the study of history is so important.Unfortunately the same things are happening in our public school systems removal of God s in a public education system and replacing it with the theory of evolution which is part of the foundation of communism is one step towards socialism. So after we studied our WB we then studied:soldiers & trench warfare of World War 1

I posted a picture of Joe's notebook page today because I wanted to show you do not have to add a picture of a person you can also place a picture or draw a picture of the subjects studied. In this case it it trenches. Daniel noticed one of his toy guns was a replica from World War 1 when looking at the pictures. He even kept it with him when he did his notebooking page.

I suggested they make trenches so Daniel got to t right away. Here is explaining to Job what a trench is and discussing how they will make it.

Their trenches. They used small stuffed animals for grenades. Angelina and her pink gun lol.

bowls for helmets

Dominic made a bayonet for the guns.

Here is a website I came across looking for something in the Pittsburgh area for a field trip of World War 1 .I could not find anything .I did find this poem that can be copied & paste onto Word etc.I had the older boys copy it as copywork instead of the essay ? on the notebook page since we discussed they wrote & did artwork etc.in the trenches on their free time.Copywork is a wonderful gentle way to learn.I enjoy Charlotte Mason's way of teaching.Copywork & playtime is an important part of learning.

Without Complaint by Milutin Bojic 1892-1917
Translated by Bernard Johnson

WITHOUT COMPLAINT 1917

Nothing are for us is new or strange,
All lands to us are dear and kindred:
In the bright sun, beneath the wild storms’ range,
We were as calm as in our native land.

Within us through our wanderings we bear
Our homeland and its sufferings’ renown;
And now, I beg you, Fate, lay her to rest,
Stained with the blood of our eternal wounds!

And so for us the oceans are not strange,
Nor yet the graves of centuries long dead;
Calmly we sit at table in the world’s great hall
While still the foe drinks in our flowers’ scent.

With trumpets like a solemn church parade,
Alone, or with our children, wives, and herds,
We wander on from place to place, from town to town,
Bearing the banners of our greatness and our fall.

The scale we learned of old we now play out once more,
The scale of fate with others less than kind;
And so for us today nothing is strange,
It seems we passed through everywhere before.

And when we stir anew the ashes of our hearth,
And tell again the tales of olden days:
We’ll listen to the fire, hear its mirth,
Just as the master, homewards from the hunt
Carries upon his lips the self-same song.

With which he left that morning for the mountain.

Finally we reviewed the boys Physical Science for tomorrows lab class.

WB 21 History Resource World War 1

Today we read half of the History Resource. In our WB we looked at Lenin and how Marks etc. influenced him.We looked at the sad time under Nicholas 2.We will finish the study of Lenin tomorrow. As we look at his life we are looking for anger & hatred. We then began our further study focus World War 1.This is an interesting topic to me but there is not many books to choose from of this war. We will be using the DK World War 1 book which includes a poster & clip art CD.I also will be using the Scribe system & the scholar system for the older kids.Since she is the same author everything works together for the multiple ages . I took pictures to explain below: your can purchase these things separately at Currclick or purchase the CD which has many history topics that are covered in the WB.Website: http://www.thehomeschoolshop.com/sh-history.htm
Jr.High students do the history scholar example to the left.

Angelina does the history scribe system and the happy scribe copybooks for World War 1

Daniel also does the History scribe pages but copies the Happy Scribe sentence on to his drawing page.

The older boys will also do a map of each year in World War 1

We will do this each day until we cover all the lessons the scribe pages. The boys also did their Physical science today. Now off to church.

WB 21 Power Through Precision

Today we did Power Through Precision from our Wisdom Booklet. All I can say is ouch! We looked at the the Greek words brother & raca from our WB verse to begin the study then did a Bible study on anger while learning vocabulary words that are synonyms of anger and the etymology of those vocabulary words.Example: indignant, furious, malicious, etc.I ended up confessing my sins and asking my children for forgiveness. My children's heart of forgiveness is always so humbling to me.

We did not get our project done that I had planned which was reading the Pineapple story along with the deeper study looking for the consequences of the missionaries anger etc.It ended up being more of a character study for all of us and a great time of fellowship.I love my children and enjoy the deep heart issues the Wisdom Booklets always seem to lead us to.God is working in our lives and is faithful and awesome! I praise Him that he loves me enough as my Father to show me my sins and loves me enough to direct my heart. This is why we love the Wisdom Booklets. The word of God is living and there is so much more to homeschool than knowledge there is also the heart.

We then went to TOG co-op to do the creation science class which the kids enjoy .Then the older kids go to grandmas for their spelling lessons.Daniel comes home to do his Christ Centered Cur.Today the younger students did WB little people text and I read the Pineapple story book to them. The older kids will listen to the Pineapple story tape on the way home from Grandmas in the van.I love this true story and unfortunately I can relate to the missonary Otto Koning.Since we did not listen to our Greek lesson on the ATI site and do the Greek worksheet I plan to do that tomorrow.

WB 21 Insights through investigation & Fire Safety

Today was our last day studying Ancient Greece. We might do a few hands on projects that I planned but did not get to.We start studying World War 1 so I pulled out the poster to create interests.Dominic was the first to notice and look at the poster.
Noah was very vocal today so we let him play in his school yard to keep him quite so we could do school. He likes looking in the mirror and saying pretty bird the ham.

Today we did Insights through Investigations.I enjoyed the Bible study. They then did the project grasp the seriousness of anger by looking up verses about hell, lake of fire, and torment.
We decided to do the fire safety project which was great because we have not covered that yet this year.I used these websites for free worksheets and fire safety lessons.
Today we studied work & school in Ancient Greece. Angelina finished her History Pocket book while Dominic & Joe finished the timeline marking all the events we studied.Dominic & Joe also did their Physical Science today.
Then I was off to Bible study.
